Virtual Observatory
The main objective is to acquaint the student with the use of astronomical databases. The rate of growth of astronomical databases, both from space
and terrestrial observatories, has been impressive during the last decades. Most research areas in Astronomy require the analysis of data from the whole electromagnetic spectrum. As a consequence, astronomical archives became a fundamental element of modern Astronomy.
The Astronomical Virtual Observatory (AVO) is a global initiative to build an electronic environment that allows a flexible access to a distributed network of astronomical archives, available through Internet. This course also describe the scientific requirements that Data Archives must accomplish. And the use of the computer tool AVO, to guarantee the
usefulness to the scientific community.
